Mind map.PNG

With my game it is about 9 year old boy goes to some place and gets stuck in a place there and by the the time he gets out everyone has gone/gone home and he sees a demon and it chases after him and his goal is to to escape where ever he is. I feel a cartoonish art style would be best for this game and I will have all gameplay features that are there in the mind map.

miond map 2.PNG

With this mind map I'm choosing where my place is and looking more into my adventure genre, so has it got puzzles with I think I am going with a play area as I think its bigger enough to use my interaction system with my doors and barriers and hiding places to give the player a chance to win the game. With my goal for this game I am swaying more towards the interactivity and coding side instead of the artsy side as I feel more confident With doing that Side of it.

Strengths

My strengths are-

-modelling- auto disk maya

-communications skills

-interpersonal skills

-good at using emerging technology - unreal

These past units have taught me how to be good in these strengths as I've learnt and used them a lot. I've learnt modelling and emerging technology this year as it has the main part of my course also while

Weaknesses

my weaknesses are as followed-

Get distracted easily

uv mapping

texturing

distracting others

not good at understanding stuff easily

putting my thoughts on a page

I guess im a bit ant social and that has stopped sometimes not working well in a team and sometimes not putting my thoughts forward or not knowing how to explain my thoughts

opportunities

I could learn how to uv map by look up and watching a 30 minute tutorial I can practise and learn how to texture in substance painter

concentrated on my own work and black out my surroundings

i could just only concentrated on work I don't look away from the monitor so I don't get distracted.

no there is not a gap in the market as there are a lot of games that are similar to my idea such as lunch lady as in concept hello neighbor as in Ai interactivity as There have a very good Ai system as it not only chases the play it also has patrol routes and does something at each area of the the route like watching tv or cleaning the dishes so that somthing I am aim to put into my game and like a a devour. as in also concept. I can get access music studio, game like the one I want to make and have all the software to make the game.

Threats

I cant control train times or traffic on roads I cant control if parents cant take me to train station I cant control if another lockdown comes in I cant control if I get distracted by other people I cant control if someone does my form in a silly manner I cant control if what they to do in terms of my form like they don't understand.

25th of may is when are project is due in by having it written down and doing work when ever possible.

how to make unreal character run holding shift and walk when not?

The reason That I am doing this is because it is to make the game more scary this will help by make the player have a itch on there back every time there run out of stamina as i am using it with a stamina bar to and itch will be warning you that you cant get away if you don't have stamina also I don't want to just have Timmy running everywhere I like the player to be able to walk about and take in the scenery. I will be doing this by following the YouTube guide above done by

Ryan laley

and using my unreal skills to help along the way.

How to make a pause menu?

The reason as to why I am making a pause menu is to Help the player out this will help the player because, say the player midway through the game dinner is ready in the oven or someone nocks on the door for something or the player just has something to do instead of restarting and closing the game losing all progress they can just pause the game and wont make the player not want to play anymore as there just lost all progression and don't want to do the same thing twice. as to how I will do this I will be following the video linked above that was created by Matt aspland This helps me understand how to make a pause menu and help me make one.

how to make unreal character have stamina bar when running ?

The reason why I am having a stamina bar is to mix it with my my running and walking key so you feel on edge every time you run out, another reason as to why i want to add stamina is slow the pace of the game down and to get the player time with interactions with areas like ball pits and stuff. As to how I will do this i will be following the video linked above by Uisco

to help me understand and learn how to make a stamina bar and stamina and using my own unreal skills along the making of this.

how to make cutscenes?

Now what is a cutscene you may ask well a cutscene is a scene That develops the storyline that is often shown when a level starts/finishes or where a major thing happens like if the the main character/ villain dies The reason why I am Putting in cutscenes to my level is to change the map so it blocks the entrance the play area and get rid of the doll of the time being to give the player some time to explore the scene. and I will be placing a cutscene directly at the start to introduce the doll and the demon chasing Timmy

This Will make the player be more frightened of the doll as they would think the doll a lot faster and scarier up close than they thought. This will also help portray the story a little as a cutscene will be played when items are picked up to show and Timmy will talk about his past. I will do this by watching the video linked above created by Matt Aspland. This helps me grasp a understanding of how to make a cutscene and will help me make one using my new found unreal skills.

how to add interaction prompt to see what you can interact with?

The reason why I am adding interaction prompts is to help the player out with finding out the controls in a high  pressure situation where the doll is chasing the player and he has to go through something and this will help them not panic and start spamming buttons to get through. I will do this by watching the video linked above that was created by Matt Aspland This video helps me understand how to make prompts and helps me make one using my unreal skills.

To see what people thought of my game idea and to get some names for characters and for my game because I am struggling with the names of it I made a Microsoft form as I though this would be the best idea to get advise for my game.

form 1.PNG
fprm 2.PNG

What i have gained/ learned from this Form

The first thing I noticed was that over 60% of people are interested in my game is interested in my game. The second thing that i noticed was that people like my idea of calling the game The play area

but due to people giving some idea for names I have decided that it will be changed to playtime. The third thing That i noticed was that nobody really liked the name Emma-O that i chose for the doll however i will still be using it as the name for the doll as according to Wikipedia  Emma-O Is the name for the Japanese Ruler of hell in Buddhism I Believe it would have much more of significant meaning to the doll as The players Might Know the culture and I wont get backlash for it.

As for the last thing that i noticed was that over half of the people didn't like the name of the character the player plays as and with that I picked a new one for the suggestions that the people gave me and I went with the name Timmy as I didn't think little would be good for the character.

How to make AI pratol

The reason why I am doing ai patrolling and not roaming ai is because I am going to be paring it with a code that when the player enters the ai's pov The Ai will chase after the player and catch them how this will work in my game is that plan to combine these with hiding in places to avoid the doll. How i will be doing this is by combining it with several videos linked together from Matt Aslplan. How i came up with this concept and idea is from the several games Like The pacifist, lunch lady and devour which are all games that you collect 10 thing of something some are exam sheets the other is goats but what I'm taking from them is the movement and how the ai act towards the player which is the "killer" patrols their areas and run after you when scene. I am getting my hiding feature from

Phasmophobia  where you can hide inside of a locker and a carboard however my game is set in a play area so i will be making the ball pits around the level a hiding spot from the doll.

I will be doing this from following the videos and combining that with my own  knowledge to make my game.

game sound implementation

The reason as to why I am doing music/sound is because according to blog.turtlebeach.com

sound in horror game "can push your your discomfort a step further with chilling music to set the mood Ambient tunes can paint a terrifying picture for any location, making it that much harder to accomplish your objectives.  You don’t want to stand around and search for clues when the music playing makes you feel like your demise could be around any corner." This course the player a experience no other has felt and results into a scary moment than you would have imagine a scary game without music you could miss a jump scare and miss the tension building up to have a sudden surprise and also it would be dull I mean watch this and you'll see and wont understand what is happening till the music starts. The other reason as to why I am doing sound is to benefit and learn from it as I want to add footsteps, laughs,

voice lines and music as the doll get closer. I am going to do this is by watching the video

above and using my own knowledge of unreal to be able to add sound/music to unreal as I have done something like this before that time I added footsteps.

What is a walking simulator?

It is a game that heavily focus on the story aspect, often with a mystery of a horror. A walking simulator could also be a comedy game or a open world game or any type of genre a lot of walking simulator games are some of the best story based games there is with having such a nice and weird story's that you wouldn't think of like the game the Stanley parable where the company he works for has been controlling his mind and to get back to his life he turns off the mind control machine only to find him self back in the same building then the player controls him while a narrator narrates him and tells you what to do to get to the end and then it ends up messing up the simulation and it gets it really weird.

What gets people hooked on walking simulator games?

The reason why I thought why people play a walking simulator is because of the in-depth story and good graphics to go with

it can also cause a sense of adventure. However according to gamerant.com the reason why people play walking simulators is because "they tend to instil a sense of distance and loneliness in the player." That is shown by games like gone home which is a game where " Katie's family had moved to a new house that she had never seen before. When she moves there and expects to see them, she is surprised to find that they aren't around." This could make the player feel a sense of danger of where their parent suddenly disappear make them feel lonely and scared. It is also shown by That Dragon, Cancer

which is a game about " Joel getting diagnosed by cancer, his parents, who are based on the creators of the game, go through experiences that nobody should ever have to face. This beautifully heart-breaking insight into Joel and his parents' lives is one of the most impactful and underrated titles ever made." This makes the player bad and sad as it is based off a true story they will also feel distant and loneliness and they see the trauma of the mother and father and imagine them self's in the situation.

how to make quick time event

The reason as to why i am doing quick time events is because they would fit well in my game for example close to the end of my game my plan is to have Timmy kick over and brake something that crushes the doll however I feel as tho a timed quick timed event would be better as he doll would is grabbing Timmy's other leg at that time. Where I got this idea from was from the tell-tale games which is a company that make games with certain art style and that are multiple choices and multiple endings

which dabble with quick times events at most major moments and can differ between one person dying or the other dying.

How I will be doing this by watching the video to the left and gaining knowledge and using my own make a quick timed event

How to make a respawn feature

The reason as to why i am doing a respawn feature is because my game needs one as the player will die often as you die when're you get caught by the doll so what I need is a respawn that resets the map the player is killed. Where I got this idea from since I didn't know what concept of respawn I would go for, I got this from the game hello neighbour in which when the player is caught you die and respawn in the spawn area. how will i be doing proses is by following through the video linked and using my own knowledge to make my way through respawning feature using the video from MR.Z

How to make a death screen

The reason as to why I am doing a death scene is because I want to have a jump scare that will scare the player when they get caught by the doll. the other reason as to why I am doing this is because when it happens once they wont want it happen again so they will be anxious and more scared and will cause the player to panic that die more making the player play more, the down side to this is that the player might quit because they cant win or because they get too scare however I believe there are more positives than negatives so I will be going with it. As to where I got this idea from would probably be the old fnaf games from 2014. as to how i will be doing this i will be following the video linked to be able to do this and using my own knowledge to do this.

Who is my target audience?

When researching about other horror games targeted audience I came across website called cmf-fmc.ca

That said that "The typical target audience for horror is the group of 15- to 24-year olds and mostly male." however according to the games that i have taken ideas from they have a pegi rating between 7 and 12 this is big difference between the 2 websites as such I will be having a pegi rating of 12+ as feel this is best for my image of my game this will also be my targeted audience which will be from 12 to 25 as I feel that you should be able to play at 12 but also it for it to appeal to 25 year olds and bellow.

what makes a good horror game?

When doing research  i came across a website called xboxtavern which said "Good survival horror games should always achieve three vital pillar points; player isolation, making the player feel under-powered and making the player feel overwhelmed." I agree to this statement to an degree as I believe placing the player in unexpected situations are what give the player more of a fright or stuff that is related to the real world  I have learnt this by watching some people playing horror games who play a lot of horror game a they notoriously get a lot more scared when something that is related to real life is happening.

how to pick up objects?

The reason why i am doing this is to combine it with a voice line or a piece of write to explain the story to the player and as to why it is happening, this will affect the gameplay as well as the feelings towards the character as they feel a real life sense of being lost as a child and not knowing where the people you love are To do this I am following a tutorial done by the channel Markom3d  this tutorial show and gives me a clear understanding of how to pick up objects I will also be adding it with another tutorial that explains how to add voice and subtitles to the game when an action is done.

How to Hide in a ball pit

The reason as to why I am doing this is create Interaction of where I hide in a ball pit how i am going to do this is by watching a video about hiding under a bed to get the code side and swap it around a bit so I can get what I want  The video I am watching is by Matt Aslplan the reason as to why i am adding a hiding feature is so that the player can have some where to hide from the the thing that is chasing them and give them a chance to win this will be done buy me following the code and relaying on my own ability to be able to swap it around to fit my own need.

Ai Chasing with music.

The reason as to why i am doing This is to add to my patrolling ai so when Ai sees the player or detects the player  it chases them and touches them with that i will be adding a zkill volume to the Ai so when the Ai touches the player it will kill the player. How I am going to this is by following a 4 videos as you need Codes from all 4 videos The 1 of the videos is the potroling video i used before. These videos are all from Matt aslpland How i am going to do this by taking all piece of code and adding it to the scene and combine it all and using my own skills to add to the tutorials .  The plan is to have once player is caught the chase music is stopped and death screen is put on screen with a scream to go with it.
